Why You May Need the Windows Troubleshooter

Upgrading from PathCam 2 to the latest version should be quick and seamless.
Occasionally, however, leftover files, registry keys, or services from an older
install can prevent the new application from launching, capturing images, or
communicating with your Canon camera. When you notice any of the following
symptoms, the Windows Program Install & Uninstall Troubleshooter
is the quickest way to clean things up:

  • PathCam launches, then closes without an error message.
  • Live‑view window shows “Device Not Found” even though the camera is connected.
  • Installer reports that PathCam is already installed or cannot upgrade.
  • Windows Apps & Features lists multiple versions of “PathCam” or “PathCam 2.”

Before You Begin

  1. Back up any unsaved images or reports stored in the old PathCam folder
    (default: C:\Program Files\PathCam).
  2. Ensure you have administrator rights on the PC.
  3. Disconnect the camera’s USB cable (re‑connect it after reinstall).

Step‑by‑Step Cleanup

  1. Download the troubleshooter.
Click “Download troubleshooter” on the Microsoft support page linked above.
  2. Run the file (MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta.diagcab)
    and choose Next.
  3. Select Uninstalling when asked what you’re having trouble with.
  4. When the troubleshooter lists programs, pick any entry that starts with
    “PathCam” or “PathCam 2.”
Tip: If PathCam does not appear, choose Not Listed and enter
    “PathCam” manually.
  5. Confirm that you want the tool to remove installation data and registry keys.
  6. Repeat for each PathCam entry until the list is clear.
  7. Restart Windows to ensure all services unload.
  8. Re‑install the latest PathCam build.
    Download your site‑specific installer (e.g.,
    pathcam.com/download/<your‑organization>/)
and run it as an administrator.
  9. Reconnect the camera, launch PathCam, and verify live view.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question Answer
Will I lose stored images? No. The troubleshooter removes install data, not your project folders.
Backups are recommended, but your image directories remain intact.
Do I need to run the Hardware ID Checker again? If you are still on a trial license, yes—run the
Hardware ID Checker
after reinstalling so we can generate your permanent key.
Our antivirus (CrowdStrike, Carbon Black) flags the installer. What now? Have your IT team temporarily whitelist the installer’s hash or add the
PathCam folder to the allowed list. Contact us if you need a signed
hash or deployment script.
Nothing changes after running the troubleshooter—what’s next? Reach out to CS@PathCam.com or call
313‑355‑2338. We can schedule a remote session to inspect driver
bindings, lingering services, or permission issues.
