🛠 How to Check if Your PathCam HR is Connected to Your Windows Computer (PathCam Support Guide)

If your PathCam HR camera FOV is not showing up in PathCam CAPTURE, follow this step-by-step guide to check if the camera is recognized by Windows. This helps determine whether the issue lies with the camera connection, device settings, or PathCam software configuration.

📍 Step 1: Confirm Physical Connection

  • Ensure the camera is powered ON.
  • Check that the USB Media Cable (USB Mini to USB Cable) is securely connected to both the PathCam HR USB Mini Port (if mounted in a grossing station, this will require an onsite technician) and the PathCam host PC’s USB 2.0 port.
  • A data-enabled USB Mini to USB Cable (not a charging-only cable) was supplied with your PathCam HR. If this cable needs replacing call Mopec customer support at (800) 362-8491.

💡 Recommendation: Use a powered USB HUB to prevent PC power cycling when multiple USB Ports are in use. Use a different USB port (USB 2.0 vs 3.0) if needed.

💻 Step 2: Access Device Manager

  1. Right-click the Start menu or press Win + X, then click Device Manager.
  2. Alternatively, press Win + R, type devmgmt.msc, and hit Enter.

🔍 Step 3: Look for the Camera in Device Manager

Inside Device Manager, expand the following sections:

  • Portable Devices: Canon EOS Rebel T6 or T7 should appear if connected properly.

The PathCam HR camera will not be listed under ‘Cameras’

🚨 If your ‘Canon EOS Rebel’ doesn’t appear: it may not be powered, connected correctly, or is in the wrong USB mode.

🧰 Step 4: Reinstall or Refresh the Camera Driver

  1. If a yellow warning icon appears next to your camera, right-click it and choose Uninstall Device.
  2. Unplug the USB, wait a few seconds, and reconnect the camera.
  3. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver. Windows automatically manages all drivers for the PathCam HR (Canon); no separate installation is needed.

⚙️ Step 5: Verify Windows Camera Permissions

  1. Open SettingsPrivacy & SecurityCamera.
  2. Make sure Camera access is ON.
  3. Scroll down to ensure “Let desktop apps access your camera” is ON and PathCam 2 is listed and allowed.

🧪 Step 6: Use Canon EOS Utility (For Canon DSLR Cameras)

  1. Download Canon EOS Utility from the official Canon website.
  2. Install and open the utility to check if it detects the camera.
  3. If it works here but not in PathCam, the issue may be related to PathCam’s access or SDK configuration.

🔄 Step 7: Restart PathCam or Reboot Your Computer

  • Close PathCam completely and relaunch it.
  • If the issue persists, perform a full system reboot.

✅ Final Tips

  • Run PathCam as Administrator (right-click → Run as administrator).
  • Temporarily disable antivirus or firewall to rule out access restrictions.
  • Ensure USB access isn’t restricted by group policy or IT in hospital settings.

📝 Still Not Working?

If you’ve completed these steps and the camera still doesn’t show up:

  • Take a screenshot of Device Manager showing all camera and Portable devices.
  • Note your camera type PathCam HR, HD, or MICRON, Windows version, and any error messages.
  • Submit a support ticket through the PathCam Support Intake Form.
